There have been some complaints regarding price and fuel quality in Kupang. We sincerely apologize for this. We do not have control over local independent operator who sell fuel and other services, although we do what we can to monitor it. Traditionally fuel price in Kupang always have been the highest.
Fuel prices in Indonesia fall into two categories. Subsidized price is not available to foreign flagged boat among others. Nonsubsidized price is about double of subsidized one. Although Indonesia produce some oil, it is far than enough to meet its growing domestic needs. It imports huge amount fuel which create serious problem internally.
Although you are advised not to buy at subsidized price there will be instances where you will be offered at lower price. As long it is offered through Local Government (through local committee), it should be allright. But if it is offered by questionable source you are strongly advised not to take that offer.
Regardless where you get the fuel, check the quality and quantity when you receive the fuel. Fuel quality should be the same, but it cannot be guaranteed. So do use good judgementt.
Note: Taking jerry can to fuel station is a big NO.
