Few years ago I met this fellow who was a high ranking local official n the Island of Sabu. We talked a lot of different things when I brought up the subject why some people on this part of the world still strongly believe on this supernatural, magic or that kind. Then he mentioned that of all the islands in this Lesser Sunda Group, Alor is the most magical of them all. When I asked him why, he started telling me this personal experience where he was taken to a place he wanted to go by a very mysterious way.
It all started at the harbour when he found out that he just missed the boat which supposed to take him to somewhere which was quite far (he did not mention the distance). He was really desperate to leave when someone approached him and offering his help. He was instructed to close his eyes and not to open it until he was told to do so. Next thing he knew he felt that he was off the ground. When he was told to open his eyes, he realised that he was at he island he wanted to go.
Later he asked someone in Timor regarding that story, he was smiled at me and mentioned that it is one of the mysteries that Island of Alor is known for. When I asked whether there was some truth in this story, he just smiled and nodded.
The person who is known to have this ability is known locally as "suwanggi"
